Fernando M. Romero
My practice is based mainly on paintings, installations and sound pieces, displaying them in site-specific interdisciplinary installations.
As an artist, I am intrigued by ‘displaced’ things. Things in which we can only be aware of its displacement in relation to something else, as it happens in translations, for example. I conceive painting as a translational device or metalanguage to overlap and collide different gestures and overflows across various mediums, codes and languages.
I appropriate fragments from different sources and fields (texts, music scores, images, codes). My work is the result of exposing them to a cascade of unorthodox readings and mistranslations in a perpetual state of transit, triggering unexpected links and activating new interpretations, overlaps and rewritings.
