Kirill Basalaev works with such mediums as abstract paintings, sculptures, and video art.
The main concept of the artist’s practice is based on the theme of the urban environment as a human memory metaphor - a fragile and constantly changing substance. The artist uses building materials such as cement, epoxy resin, plaster, and construction grids.
The city is introduced as a living structure, where shards, cracks, and breaks are evidence of its “vitality”. Kirill not only registers them on the surface of a canvas but also sort of “fixes“ himself at a particular point. In such a way, for Kirill human memory of ourselves becomes a bunch of memories of the places.
