*Indicative Only
ABOUT
It all gets amplified, the hasty copy/paste, the templated human interactions, the good-enough. Full of contradictions, social ambiguities, and accidental poetry.
Park Royal is one of Europe’s largest industrial estates, home to more than 1,700 businesses. Now part of the UK’s biggest urban regeneration scheme, transforming the neighbourhood over the next 25 years.
Photographer and artist Gilbert Wedam lives and works in Park Royal, aiming to document and interpret this significant shift in the area’s landscape and character.
His project ‘Indicative Only’ examines the culture of real estate development, specifically the computer-generated images used to promote future housing projects in the area.
“On my walks I passed them many times, the huge billboards around building sites, showing how a building — and the life around it — will be once finished. Designed to sell successful living, pixel-perfect and glossy. But zooming in on the details, they reveal a fascinating tension between their slick easy-to-dream purpose and the vast imperfections and messiness of life. It all gets amplified, the hasty copy/paste, the templated human interactions, the good-enough. Full of contradictions, social ambiguities, and accidental poetry.”
In keeping of their original source, ‘Indicative Only’ is presented as a publicly accessible street installation, on the walls of ContaiNAR on North Acton Road.
