Nikolai IshChuk’s practice uses the processes and materials of photography as building blocks for propositions that test the thresholds of media, fixed categories, legibility and non-narrative meaning.
To this end, he often employs visually reductive but materially additive strategies that simultaneously inscribe a surface with basic image-information and complicate its subsequent reading.
